Take a Walk

Take a Walk
Mini Hobo Bag

Just a little bag that I designed for when I go for a walk (hence the name). I wanted something that I could toss my house keys and wallet in. The straps are attached with clips so the bag can be used as a shoulder bag, or clipped to a belt loop.

Materials:

1 ball (2 oz) worsted weight cotton

set of 5 size 8 double point needles

4 – 1” key rings

2 – 3” clips

crochet hook

sewing needle

Size: 4" x 4" x 5" deep

Gauge: 10 stitches x 15 rows = 2" x 2"

Notes: Bottom is a garter stitch square. Sides are picked up from the square and worked in the round in seed stitch. Strap is held on with clips so they can be removed and the bag can be clipped into a belt loop.

Seed Stitch:

Row/Rnd 1: *K1, P1, rep from * to end

Row/Rnd 2: *P the knit stitches and K the purl stitches, rep from * to end

I-Cord Bind Off:

CO 3 sts on left needle.

*K2, K2tog; return 3 sts to left needle. Repeat from * until all stitches have been bound off.

Cut yarn, thread onto a needle and weave through remaining 3 sts. Finish off.

Bag:

Bottom (worked flat on 2 needles):

CO 15

Rows 1-30: sl 1 pwise, k across. After row 30, do not cut yarn

Pick up and knit stitches as follows: 15 sts down first side, 15 sts across bottom, 15 sts up second side. 60 stitches all together. Arrange on 4 dpns, place marker and begin working in rounds. Work 35 rounds of seed stitch..

To bind off:

I-cord bind off 27 sts, slip next 3 sts onto a spare needle and hold to front, I-cord bind off to last 3 sts. Slip last 3 sts to a spare needle, hold to front and attach BO to beginning of BO edge.

Attach key rings as follows:

Attach yarn to stitches on the spare needle. work 6 rows I-cord. BO leaving a length to sew with. Slip 1 key ring onto I-cord and stitch I-cord to inside of bag. Repeat for other side.

Strap:

Leaving a length for sewing, CO 3 sts. Work stockinette stitch for 8 rows. Next row: K1, M1, K1, M1, K1, turn. Work in seed stitch until the strap measures 9 inches shorter than desired length (keep in mind that it will stretch). Next row: K2tog, K1, K2tog. Work 8 rows stockinette stitch, BO leaving a length for sewing. Slip a key ring onto the end of the strap, fold the stockinette edge over the key ring and sew to the 8th row from edge. Repeat on other side. Use the clips to attach the strap to the bag, or use the clips to attach the bag to a belt loop. ENJOY

Extra special thanks, to my sister Erin for modeling the bag for the pics. As fair trade for the use of her hips, she asked if I would advertise her website. So, I decided to give the links for both of her sites. Enjoy, and Thanks again, Erin. www.supertastypastry.net & http://garde-manger.tripod.com/
